WHAT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
According to the Texas Attorney General's Office, "Human trafficking is modern day slavery. It is the exploitation of men, women, and children for forced labor or sex by a third party for profit or gain." It is a cruel, vicious practice, which violates the victim's fundamental civil rights. Approximately 25% of sex trafficking victims found nationwide are found here in Texas.
Human trafficking is a $32 billion industry worldwide and there are approximately 36 million men, women and children in slavery around the world. As a state with one of the largest borders in the country, Texas is widely considered a major destination and transit state for human sex trafficking.
