According to the Texas Attorney General's Office, "Human trafficking is modern day slavery. It is the exploitation of men, women, and children for forced labor or sex by a third party for profit or gain." It is a cruel, vicious practice, which violates the victim's fundamental civil rights. Approximately 25% of sex trafficking victims found nationwide are found here in Texas.

Human trafficking is a $152 billion industry worldwide and there are approximately 40.3 million men, women and children in slavery around the world. As a state with one of the largest borders in the country, Texas is widely considered a major destination and transit state for human sex trafficking.
